The main objective of the study is to obtain the fullest possible information on the baseline environmental status of seals and other sea mammals (grey seal, ringed seal, possibly harbor porpoise if presence recorded) prior to any development activities in and around the ELWIND offshore wind park sites and the future temporal and spatial effects of the use of marine areas.

The study is done for both Estonian and Latvian areas together and it includes three studies:

  • Monitoring the abundance of grey seals (the results should provide an estimate of the proportion of the total coastal seal population affected by ELWIND development activities);
  • Sea usage study using telemetry systems (to monitor the movements and behaviour of local seals using telemetry tags);
  • Acoustic monitoring and underwater noise assessment (to detect marine mammals in ELWIND areas by recording their sounds and also to set the baseline data of noise level before the development of wind parks).

The submission deadline for the tenders is 03.03.2025, 10:00 (EET).
