ELWIND project signs contracts with 3BIRD SYSTEMS to study the impact of offshore wind farms on bats

ELWIND has signed contracts with 3BIRD SYSTEMS to conduct a study on the impact of offshore wind farms on bats. The study will be carried out in both Estonian and Latvian waters within the ELWIND offshore wind farm area and the 5 km buffer zone around it.

The aim of the procurement is to study within the scope of environmental impact assessment the bats (order Chiroptera) who are to be found be using or passing by the ELWIND offshore wind park areas and its surroundings.

In the event that any adverse effects are identified, the study will provide recommendations on how to avoid, prevent, and mitigate these impacts. The study will also outline potential positive impacts associated with the planned activities.

The goal of the Estonia-Latvia offshore wind cooperation project ELWIND is to create favourable conditions for the development of affordable renewable energy in our region, benefiting both local communities and electricity consumers in Estonia and Latvia.

To achieve this, the state will conduct thorough studies on how the Estonian-Latvian offshore wind farm would impact the environment, socio-economic conditions, wildlife, seabed, visual landscape, etc.
