ELWIND has signed a contract with 3BIRD OÜ to conduct a survey of birds in Estonian area and with Workboats Consulting OÜ to conduct a survey of birds in Latvian area.
The study consists of three separate surveys:
- A baseline survey of birds – to collect data on the birds of the area.
- A radar survey – to collect data on the area’s birds and assess seasonal peculiarities in flight intensity, based on the international standard StUK4.
- Telemetry tags in Estonian area – to study whether the Estonian ELWIND area could be an important feeding area for Little gull (Hydrocoloeus minutus) and Lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus) species.
In the event that any adverse effects are identified, the study will provide recommendations on how to avoid, prevent, and mitigate these impacts. The study will also outline potential positive impacts associated with the planned activities.
The goal of the Estonia-Latvia offshore wind cooperation project ELWIND is to create favorable conditions for the development of affordable renewable energy in our region, benefiting both local communities and electricity consumers in Estonia and Latvia.
To achieve this, the states will conduct thorough studies on how the Estonian-Latvian offshore wind farm would impact the environment, socio-economic conditions, wildlife, seabed, visual landscape, etc.
