ELWIND signs the contract for the Metocean in-situ measurement campaign

ELWIND has signed a contract with EOLOS Floating Lidar Solutions S.L. to carry out in–situ measurement campaigns for Estonian and Latvian offshore wind park sites.

Measurement campaign for each site is divided into three phases:

1.         Preparatory phase

2.         Execution phase

3.         Data validation and reporting phase

The measurement campaign aims at providing accurate and validated data on the metocean (meteorological and oceanographic) conditions for the respective offshore wind park sites of the ELWIND project.

The data obtained during the measurement campaign will serve as the primary input for the Wind Resource Assessment. Data can also be used for further analysis to improve the (preliminary) design of the wind farms, the installation and maintenance of wind turbines, inter array cables, substations and their support structures.

The availability of accurate and validated metocean data is expected to have a significant impact on the reduction of risks associated with the development and construction of the offshore wind parks, thereby reducing the costs, and adding value for the project. The goal of the joint Estonian–Latvian ELWIND offshore wind park is to create favorable conditions for the development of accessible renewable energy in the region, benefiting both local communities and electricity consumers in Estonia and Latvia. To achieve this, both countries are conducting comprehensive studies on the potential environmental impacts of the offshore wind park, including effects on wildlife, seabed, socio-economic conditions, visual landscape, and other key aspects.
